The One About Blogging That Actually Gets Clients with Jana Osofsky
Jun 12 2026 | By: Kate DeCoste Photography
If you’ve ever stared at your screen thinking:
“What am I even supposed to post now?”
…you are definitely not alone.
For photographers, creatives, and small business owners, content creation can quickly start to feel like a full-time job on top of the actual business you’re trying to run.
In the very first episode of Season 3 of The One Behind the Lens, I sat down with content strategist Jana Osofsky to talk about a completely different way to approach blogging and marketing — one that focuses less on constantly creating NEW content and more on creating the RIGHT content.
And honestly? It was one of those conversations that made me rethink my own content strategy while we were recording.
What Is a Capsule Blog?
Jana teaches something called a “capsule blog library.”
Instead of trying to blog every single week forever, she encourages business owners to create 12–20 intentional blog posts that answer the main questions, concerns, myths, and hesitations their audience has before booking or buying.
Then?
You repurpose those blogs over and over again.
Social media.
Emails.
Pinterest.
Client education.
SEO.
Inquiry responses.
The goal is to stop creating disposable content and start building content assets that continue working for your business long after you hit publish.
Why This Matters for Photographers
One thing I loved about this conversation is that Jana didn’t pretend every business works the same way.
For photographers — especially those of us who are location-based — blogging and SEO still matter.
A LOT.
Jana talked about how photographers can balance:
• Human-first content
• SEO-friendly blog posts
• Local keywords
• Evergreen education
• Repurposing content
…without turning into full-time bloggers.
One of my favorite lines she said was:
“You’re not a blogger. You’re a business owner with a blog.”
And honestly? I think a lot of photographers needed to hear that.
The Conversation About AI We Actually Needed
We also got into AI and content creation — which I know is a huge conversation right now.
What I appreciated most was Jana’s approach:
Use AI as a tool, not as the brain.
Instead of asking AI to completely generate a blog post from scratch, she recommends first outlining your actual thoughts, experiences, expertise, and ideas… and THEN using AI to help organize and structure the writing.
That distinction matters.
Because your audience can tell the difference between content written by a human with real experience and generic content pulled from the internet.
The Real Reason Creatives Feel Burned Out
One of the biggest takeaways from this episode?
Jana said content burnout usually isn’t about doing too much.
It’s about doing a lot without seeing results.
And wow… that hit.
Because so many creatives are constantly posting, creating, editing, writing, filming, and showing up online — but they’re not always creating content strategically.
This episode is such a good reminder that your content should support your business, not consume it.

Jana also shares a free training that walks through her capsule blog strategy in more detail and gives a behind-the-scenes look at how her system works.
