Choosing the Location
You've got this one covered.
EpisodeHow to Choose the Perfect Location for Your Senior Photos
As a senior photographer in Lincoln, Nebraska, one of the first questions I ask every senior during our consultation isn't "Where do you want to take your senior pictures?" Instead, I ask two simple questions.
Are you drawn to urban locations, nature, or the country?
Is there somewhere, or something, that just feels like you?
That's where it starts. The best senior photos aren't taken at the most popular location. They're taken in places that tell your story.
The best senior picture location is the one that feels like you. Start by deciding whether you're drawn to urban, nature, country, or studio, then add a place tied to your story, like your favorite hangout, your family's acreage, or the field where you play. Around Lincoln, Nebraska, that could be downtown brick streets, a sunflower field, or a gravel country road.
Answer the same questions I ask in every consultation. Pick as many places as feel like you, and you'll get a session plan, in order, to bring to our planning call.
It's easy to scroll Pinterest or Instagram and think you have to recreate someone else's photos. But your senior session should look like you. Tap the one that sounds more like you.

Some of my favorite sessions happened in places that wouldn't make anyone else's "Top 10 Photo Locations" list.
That's what makes a location meaningful.
Sometimes the best location isn't really about the location at all. It's about what you love. Pick what's shaped your high school years and see how I'd build it in. There are a lot of choices, because there are a lot of different seniors.
These aren't just props. They're pieces of your story.
Start with two questions: are you drawn to urban, nature, country, or studio, and is there somewhere that just feels like you? The best locations tell your story instead of copying what's trending.
Downtown Lincoln's brick streets and murals, flower and sunflower farms, tall prairie grass, lakes at sunset, gravel country roads, old barns, and your hometown's Main Street are all great choices. A rentable studio in Lincoln works in any weather and for pets.
Yes. Some of the best sessions mix two different looks, like starting at a flower farm and finishing downtown. It adds variety while still telling one story.
Absolutely. Your jersey, your instrument, your horse, or your dog are pieces of your story. Pets that can't handle an outdoor location, like cats, can join you in a studio session.
It depends on the look you want. June has peonies and long evenings, August has sunflower fields, September brings golden prairie grass, and October has fall color. Popular months fill up fast, so book early.
Choosing your locations is one piece of creating a session that feels like you. Each part has a matching podcast episode, so you can read it or listen on Spotify or Apple Podcasts. Not sure when you should book your session? Here's when to book your senior pictures.
